The Ice It!® Large Ice Pack was specifically designed for Cold Therapy treatment of large areas of the body. The generous 6” x18” size provides full coverage for treating back pain, leg pain (sciatica), arthritis pain, muscle spasms, shoulder, and knee pain. It is also large enough to warp around the full length of arms or legs, and has a well-designed wide elastic and Velcro® strap that holds the Ice It!® Ice Pack securely in place, hands-free. The plush fabric foam padded cover is insulated, so there is no condensation to drip on you, your clothes, or furniture.
The Ice It!® Large Ice Pack ,cold compress holds THREE 6”x9” reusable Cold Packs, each one held securely in its own compartment in the 6” x18” padded, insulated cover. The soft inner layer of the cover shields the skin from tissue damage due to hypothermia. The patented, non-toxic gel in the Cold Packs is a mixture of recycled plant cellulose and salt water. This combination allows it to freeze quickly, but, because of the salt water, remains pliable AND retains its low temperature longer.
Because of the pliability characteristic of the Ice It!® Cold Packs when frozen, they conform perfectly to the shape of a shoulder, back, arm, leg, etc., surrounding it with cold to achieve the maximum therapeutic benefit.
WHY COLD THERAPY?
Of course, you should follow the instructions of your personal physician, but usually doctors recommend the RICE protocol (Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate) for the first 24-48 hours to treat an injury or to aid rehabilitation after surgery. After an injury, your body automatically reacts by swelling at the injured site. Application of Cold Therapy at this time helps to slow down the swelling and stimulate the blood flow in the soft tissue deep beneath the skin, letting your body begin to heal.
Gentle compression like that provided by the Ice It!® Cold Pack is helpful in limiting and reducing swelling at the site of the injury. This combination of Cold Therapy and Compression will provide the double benefit of two safe, effective, simple techniques to heal the body that much faster.
When it comes to treating chronic pain, even Rheumatoid Arthritis, medical professionals know that alternating cold therapy with heat therapy is also very beneficial in stimulating circulation, reducing swelling, and easing pain.
Limit the length of Cold Therapy to 20 or 30 minutes and wait until your skin is back to a normal temperature before starting another session.
PLEASE NOTE: Do not use Cold Therapy if you are suffering with Reynaud’s Syndrome, paralysis, or areas of impaired sensation (nerve damage).
